Wisdom tooth extraction in Ealing

When wisdom teeth don't have enough space to come through cleanly, they can push against neighbouring teeth, become impacted or cause repeated infections. Your dentist in Ealing will take a digital X-ray to assess how your wisdom teeth are coming through, then talk you through whether they should be removed and how straightforward it's likely to be. More complex cases can be done under sedation.

02

When do you need an extraction?

We may recommend an extraction or oral surgery in Ealing if you have:

  • A badly broken or decayed tooth that can't be restored
  • An impacted or repeatedly infected wisdom tooth
  • Severe gum disease causing tooth mobility
  • Overcrowding ahead of orthodontic treatment
  • A baby tooth that won't fall out naturally

03

After your extraction — looking after the area

Having a tooth out is the same as a small operation, so good aftercare speeds healing and reduces the risk of infection. For the first 24 hours:

  • Avoid hot food and drinks, alcohol and smoking
  • Don't rinse your mouth — leave the blood clot undisturbed
  • Stick to soft, cool foods
  • Take ordinary painkillers (paracetamol or ibuprofen) if needed

After 24 hours, rinse gently with warm salty water (half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water) and keep brushing as normal. If pain worsens after a few days, contact us — it may be a 'dry socket' we can quickly treat.

Replacing the missing tooth

We'll always discuss replacement options at the same time as planning your extraction — from dental implants and bridges to partial dentures. Replacing missing teeth helps protect your bite, your jawbone and your smile.
